Asahikawa's Furniture history dates back to Meiji 30s (1898-1908), when the Seventh Division of the Japanese Imperial Army was established, together with its construction of its train division's Asahikawa Factory. Since then, manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers have worked together in Asahikawa to form its original furniture production zone. Pursuing to build a competitive locality, Asahikawa offers a wide variety of woodwork that takes advantage of the fact that Asahikawa is the actual material collection site. Its designs are simple and modern, exhibiting the dynamic rawness of the material, and its production system is flexible and consistent, responding to detailed orders. The “International Furniture Design Fair Asahikawa” has been held every three years since 1990. Inspired by the modern design thereof, Asahikawa seeks to improve its design and expand the brand making full use of the global network built at the fair.

Utilized local resource: Taking full advantage of Mt. Daisetsu's rich forest resources and the outstanding processing technique of Asahikawa, its wooden furniture industry continues to strive as a local industry representing Hokkaido. Asahikawa is now recognized as the furniture production area of outstanding functionality.
